The city of Marrakech is located in the mid-South Western region of Morocco, which was established in the middle of the 10th century. It is also called "the Red City" because of the mud color used in its traditional construction . The city boasts two cities; an old city called the "medina" and a new one, called "Gueliz".
Marrakech has a large traditional market “SOUK”, and the popular square “Djemaa el'fna” which is an amazing and popular place especially for tourists. In Dejmaa el'fna square Here you will find acrobats, snake charmers , storytellers and fortune tellers, dancers and musicians, and more. At night, the Djemaa is usually crowded to entertain and amuse the visitors. Your nose will be filled with the smell of different flavors of delicious food cooked in stalls in the open-air square.
The old medina has picturesque architectural monuments such as "Koutoubia” ( the 12th-century mosque) located just few steps away of the square, decorated “Medersa” of Youssef Ben-Tachafine with fine hand-made mosaics, marble and pieces of carved woodwork, the superb “Bahia Palace" , and the wonderful "Menara" which fascinates its visitors."Camel rides" and ''horrse rides'' are available at Menara. An increasing number of tourists have bought traditional buildings in order to settle in or just to spend their vacations, or to turn it into tourist resorts.
Other interesting places to see are; “Oukaimeden Mountain” one of the highest and beautiful mountains in the Atlas range. It's snowy peaks are the best place to ski in Morocco. Next, you can visit the “waterfalls” and the “Super Donkey market” in “Ourika” region, as well as the spectacular landscapes of “Jebel Toubkal” the highest mountain in Morocco. Driving from Marrakech through “Tizi n’Tichka’’ the beautiful zigzaged road down the face of the mountain is a best way to discover the magic of the south.
